FIRST CALL PARENT

 NEEDED !

Ever wish you could rewrite your diagnosis "story"?

Have you heard other parents tell the not-so-wonderful tale of how THEY received the diagnosis of Down syndrome?

STOP wishing this won't happen to anyone else and DO SOMETHING! Parents and families who will receive a diagnosis of Down syndrome NEED YOU.

BECOME A FIRST CALL PARENT *

Training is available for all parents interested in becoming, or continuing as, FIRST CALL PARENT volunteers*.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 27

10:30 a.m. - noon

CHI Health St. Elizabeth - Friendship Room

*FIRST CALL PARENT volunteers allow DSAF of NE to have available a network of trained parents to meet families who have recently received a diagnosis of Down syndrome. The role of the FIRST CALL PARENT is to be called upon to meet new families at the time of diagnosis to offer support and information and to answer questions.

FIRST CALL PARENT volunteers receive training from the DSAF Medical Outreach team to ensure those volunteers have accurate, up-to-date information.

All first-time, FIRST CALL PARENT volunteers are required to receive training to ensure that new families are receiving similar messages regardless of the parent that meets with them. This training also provides the team information to help determine the right fit for the family (NEW PARENT) that receives a new diagnosis. Subsequently, FIRST CALL PARENT volunteers are asked to attend (when possible) any future NEW PARENT events to continue support and encourage networking within the Ds community.
